Retro Insider - "Audio Adrenaline"
Now we'll look at a mega popular Christian alternative rock band that had a huge impact on CCM history. All the members of this group were dedicated to the ministry of Jesus Christ and showed it in their music and lifestyle.
It all started in 1989 when Barry Blair, Mark Stuart, Will McGinniss, and Phil Vaughn, along with Mark’s brother David and Ron Gibson started a popular local band named A-180. Enter Bob Herdman. He approached the band with two songs, including My God and recorded them with the band under the name Audio Adrenaline.
The music charted and Forefront offered them a contract under the condition of the name change. Audio Adrenaline came about when Herdman was listening to some loud secular music. After the contract, Bob joined the band and David left. Their first record under Forefront was their self titled debut in 1992.
In 1993, they released Don’t Censor Me, with their hit song "Big House". Then in 1995 their live show was captured as Live Bootleg.
In 1996 they released Bloom. This was a gold record that contained the hit "NGBABAJ". 1997 saw the birth of Some Kind of Zombie with hits that included "Chevette", "Blitz", and the title track.
In 1999, they released Underdog. This contained the power songs "Mighty Good Leader", "Get Down", and "Hands and Feet". Then in 2000, they released Hit Parade, their first greatest hit project. After this release, Herdman left the band to form Flicker Records. In 2001, Lift was released. It was in this era the band became superstar.
In 2003, Worldwide came out. Hits included "Pierced", "Leaving Ninety-Nine", and "Miracle". The record won a Grammy for best rock Gospel album in 2004.
In 2005, what would be their last studio record, Until My Heart Caves In, was released. The hits were "King" and "Starting Over". Their second Grammy came courtesy of this recording. However, in January of 2006, they shocked the CCM world by announcing they were leaving active ministry, citing Stuart's vocal problems.
Later that year they released Adios, a greatest hits package and opened for Mercy Me for their final tour. In April 2007, they performed their last show in Hawaii. This was captured as Live from Hawaii: The Farewell Concert. But, good news for all you fans, it was recently announced that Audio Adrenaline will reunite in 2009 at Australian music festival Easterfest.
